The Los Angeles Tourism and Convention Board has provided a wealth of information on its website designed to help those looking for assistance, as well as guide those interested in providing support for the region.

According to the tourism board, both the Los Angeles International Airport and the Port of Los Angeles continue to operate without interruption, remaining fully open and functional. However, air quality in Los Angeles has been significantly impacted due to the ongoing wildfires.

The tourism board website also provides a long list of individual hotels, by region around Los Angeles county, that are offering shelter to those impacted.

Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly will head to Washington next week as part of her government’s efforts to press the incoming Trump administration not to impose damaging tariffs on Canada.

President-elect Donald Trump has threatened to impose 25 per cent across-the-board tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico when he is inaugurated later this month.

Planning a Europe trip? Travel permit for Canadians is delayed

Canadians planning a trip to Europe don’t have to worry about getting a travel permit – for now – as the rollout of a new entry requirement for visa-exempt nationals has been delayed.

The European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) was due to launch last year, requiring Canadian passport holders among others travelling to any of these 30 European countries for a short stay to apply for the permit.

This data is according to the 2025 Henley Passport Index, which ranks all the world’s 199 passports according to the number of destinations they can access without a prior visa, and is based on exclusive official data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

Canada (seventh place with 188 destinations), the U.S. (ninth place with 186 destinations), and the UAE, one of the biggest climbers over the past decade, having secured an additional 72 destinations since 2015 to put it in tenth place with visa-free access to 185 destinations worldwide.

In early December, BookRetreats released its Holiday Relaxation Report, which unveiled the best destinations around the world where travelers can find total peace and quiet.

BookRetreats then named Canada the most relaxing destination in all of North America and the second best worldwide. As BookRetreats noted, it's also the only North American destination in the top 25.
