| The Future of Canada’s Tourism Sector | Source: Tourism HR Canada | Just released: the latest tourism labour forecast. "The Future of Canada’s Tourism Sector" explores labour force, employment, and job vacancy rates to 2040, plus info from surveys and focus groups with tourism operators. Tourism HR Canada has published its latest labour supply and demand projections report—the final report of this series. This work was carried out by the Conference Board of Canada on behalf of Tourism HR Canada, and reflects statistical modelling of labour force, employment, and job vacancy rates out to 2040. Preliminary and interim modelling projections have been published over the last three years, but this final report draws on more up-to-date data and incorporates contextual information gleaned from surveys and focus groups conducted over the past year with tourism operators and leaders. |

| Tour of Jasper wildfire devastation reveals destroyed homes and hotels | Source: Global News | Parks Canada and Smith said earlier Friday that about 30 per cent, or a third, of the community was either damaged or destroyed. Out of a total of 1,113 structures within the town, Parks Canada said 358 have been destroyed. All critical infrastructure in Jasper was saved, including the hospital, emergency services building, both elementary and junior/senior schools, activity centre and wastewater treatment plant, Parks Canada said. |

| Southwest to break 50-year tradition and assign seats | Source:Travel Industry Today | Southwest Airlines says that it plans to drop the open-boarding system it has used for more than 50 years and will start assigning passengers to seats, just like all the other big airlines. | Disneyland workers authorize potential strike ahead of ongoing contract negotiations | Source: Associated Press | The strike authorization was approved by an overwhelming margin, nearly 99% of the members who cast votes, according to a union statement. The election was held by a coalition of four unions, which represents 14,000 Disney ride operators, store clerks, custodians, candy makers, ticket takers, parking attendants and other employees. The vote does not mean a strike will happen, only that union leaders now have the option to call a strike in the event that they are unable to negotiate a new contract deal with Disney. |

| Canadian dollars will soon be widely accepted in Cuba | Source: Travel Press | Canadians visiting Cuba will soon be able to bid farewell to airport dashes in search of currency exchange outlets upon arriving in the Caribbean country. Cuban tourism officials have announced that the country expects that by mid-August the likes of Canadian and American dollars and European euros will be widely accepted in Cuba, meaning that Canadians who don’t like using credit cards when abroad will shortly be able to use their own currency when buying the likes of bar drinks, restaurant meals, gift shop items and tour company excursions. |
