Airbnb Demand is Down and Hotel Suites Are Scarce: The Surprising Resort That’s Booming

The rise of affordable short-term rental vacations in the past 15 years has changed how people travel. They’ve grown accustomed to the space and conveniences of homes or condos and no longer prefer to stay in a traditional single-room hotel unit. However, in 2023, Airbnb’s total rental cost is not always more affordable than a hotel room, and travelers increasingly crave the amenities, security, and consistency of resorts.

These changing preferences are driving hotels to update their room offerings. Still, they can’t create suites or connecting rooms fast enough to meet demand. So travelers are turning to a surprising resort-type – vacation clubs.

The airline will begin service to Canada in June 2024, to both Montréal-Trudeau International Airport and Toronto Pearson International Airport. Tickets for the new flights to Canada are currently on sale on the airline’s website with starting fares at $99, however the airline said at the time of the announcement that the route is still pending final government approval.

Lower prices for travel-related services, durable goods and groceries helped ease inflation last month, Statistics Canada said. Meanwhile, gasoline prices rose at a faster pace in September compared to the same time last year — excluding gasoline, the Consumer Price Index rose 3.7 per cent. The report cited that consumers are paying less for airfares, as airlines offered more flights in the last year.

Delta dials back some changes to loyalty program and lounge access

Responding to a backlash from elite customers, Delta has dialed back some of the loyalty program changes the airline announced last month. Those changes were geared toward alleviating Sky Club lounge crowding and reducing the number of SkyMiles members with Medallion loyalty status.
