CRTA and our members are committed to supporting the highest standards and ethics in the vacation ownership industry. To demonstrate this commitment, the Association has adopted the following Code of Ethics which all CRTA Members pledge to uphold.

Code of Ethics


All member activities must comply with applicable international, federal, provincial and local laws and regulations.

Information and Documentation

All information, descriptions and disclosures, whether oral, written or graphic, must be compliant, complete, accurate, clear, easily understandable and consistent.

Avoidance of False and Deceptive Statements

Statements made in conjunction with development activities, including all sales and solicitations, must not omit material information and must not convey false, untrue, deceptive or misleading information through statements, testimonials, photographs, graphics or other means..

Resale and Rental Value

Any representations made regarding the potential resale value or rental revenue must be presented accurately and clearly and must be based upon adequate data. Rental or resale companies and their agents shall clearly disclose any contractual relationship they might have with the resort and shall disclose if they have any economic interest in, or own any development inventory at the resort.

Exchange Affiliations

If exchange programs are offered, prospective purchasers will be provided with all relevant information, consistent with the practices of the exchange programs. The purchaser is to be informed as to: how the exchange system works; how to effect an exchange; what benefits, privileges and limitation may apply to any specific unit; the duration of the exchange affiliation; affiliation membership fees; whether exchange membership is voluntary or mandatory; any and all other pertinent information.


CRTA Members will conduct all business affairs with propriety, avoiding conflicts of interest and acting with integrity.


All activities are to be conducted with proper attention to the consumer’s interest and with due regard for the reputation of the vacation ownership industry.


The consumer's privacy will always be protected by enacting responsible privacy policies that withhold personal information from being shared with third parties for commercial purposes, unwanted solicitation or fraudulent activity.

Ethics Enforcement

CRTA cannot mediate, arbitrate, or otherwise resolve individual disputes between a consumer and a CRTA Member, or between CRTA Members. If we receive information regarding a potential violation of our Code of Ethics, we will make every effort to review the situation with the CRTA Member for its consideration and resolution. Final resolution can only be effected directly between the complainant and the CRTA Member.

As a professional trade association, CRTA’s ability to enforce its Code of Ethics is limited to CRTA Members. However, if you would like to provide information about a non-member company, contact us at [email protected]. We will attempt to notify the non-member company regarding your concerns.

Occasionally companies who are not CRTA Members display our logo in their website or in their sales offices. Please notify us if you are aware of these situations.


Companies identified as members of CRTA have met the ethical business practices required by CRTA Membership. However, CRTA does not recommend or endorse any company offering services within the resort and travel industry. CRTA’s focus is to educate industry stakeholders, including consumers, how to make informative decisions when choosing a service provider.
