A flawed update by endpoint virus detection and response provider CrowdStrike triggered a global outage that crippled the travel industry’s IT infrastructure. Airports ground to a halt, airlines canceled flights en masse and frustrated travelers faced long queues and delays.

U.S. court backs carriers over hidden fees,

Consumer advocates south of the border are criticizing an appeals court decision that blocks a new US Transportation Department rule requiring airlines to more clearly disclose fees when they advertise prices for a flight. A three-judge panel on the 5th US Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans said this week the rule “likely exceeds” the agency’s authority “and will irreparably harm airlines.”

The judges found the rule to be too detailed in its restrictions and granted a request by airlines to temporarily block the rule while a lawsuit filed by the carriers plays out.

The US CDC has once again revised the rules for importation of dogs into the US from dog-rabies free or low risk countries (including Canada) that will come into effect on August 1, 2024. This applies to dogs that have not visited any high-risk countries for at least 6 months prior to travelling to the US.

Transportation Secretary Warns US Airlines About New Refund Rules

United States Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg issued a letter to the chief executive officers of the nation’s 10 largest airlines to reinforce the need to provide customers with cash refunds when appropriate.

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) outlined for U.S. carriers that refund requirements in the FAA Reauthorization Act took effect on May 16, 2024.

Mexico roadshow coming soon to Toronto, Ottawa & Montreal

Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto will see September events promoting different destinations in Mexico, with a familiar face to many in Quebec and Ontario’s tourism trades playing a major role in them.
