Canada's inflation rate dips to 2.5% in July, lowest since March 2021

The deceleration was attributed in part to lower prices for travel as compared to a year earlier, when travel tours, airline tickets and accommodation soared in the first summer without COVID-19 restrictions.

While Punta Cana and its wide array of all-inclusives remains a top draw for tourists not just in the Dominican Republic but in the Caribbean in general, a region just west of it is gaining interest from tourists and resorts.

Upcoming resorts include the December opening of Viva Miches by Wyndham, a Trademark All-Inclusive Resort; the Marriott Miches Beach; Zemi Miches All-Inclusive Resort, Curio Collection by Hilton on Feb. 1; and two Hyatt Inclusive Collection properties: the adults-only Secrets Playa Esmeralda Resort & Spa and the family friendly Dreams Playa Esmeralda, both slated for April openings.

Jasper wildfire: Businesses shift focus  

to reopening as fire risks fade

While Jasper National Park and the town are still closed to visitors, on Friday the park service announced that it had reopened the road south through the Rocky Mountains that is a key draw for tourists.

Community Futures is working to understand just how big a toll the fire has taken on businesses, conducting a survey with the Red Cross and the Alberta government to get data that they can then turn into more supports. An earlier survey conducted by the Tourism Industry Association of Alberta gave some sense of scale, estimating daily revenue losses as high as $4.5 million a day during the peak summer months.

FAA Proposes Updated Cybersecurity Standards For New Airplanes

The FAA is proposing to update its cybersecurity standards for new airplanes and equipment.  It made the announcement in a notice in the Federal Register, the contents of which can be viewed by clicking on the link.

The update covers the aircraft itself, engines and propellers.

Disney Drops Arbitration Push, Agrees To Have Wrongful Death Lawsuit Decided In Court

The Walt Disney Co. agreed to have a court decide on a wrongful death lawsuit, brought by a widower in Florida after earlier arguing that the case belonged in arbitration because the man signed up for a trial of streaming service Disney+ in 2019.

The lawsuit was filed by the husband of a woman who died last year from an allergic reaction after eating at a restaurant in the Disney Springs shopping complex in Orlando.
