The scenes were part of wider protest action that saw around 2,800 people calling for limits to tourism in their home city, according to police figures. But organizers have claimed that seven times as many people took part, the Telegraph reported.

In April, tens of thousands of people participated in the largest demonstrations against tourism across the Canary Islands, an autonomous community of Spain. The effort was backed by environmental groups including Greenpeace, WWF, and Friends of the Earth

Westgate Resorts, the timeshare king, lays off 357 employees

he Orlando-based timeshare king Westgate Resorts is laying off 357 employees next month, according to a state filing.

Westgate Marketing and Westgate Resorts filed a WARN notice, which alerts the state when employers are doing mass layoffs.

Car rental rates in Canada to stabilize, says Amex GBT

After more than three years of volatility, car rental rates are expected to stabilize, growing at a slower rate than what the industry has seen during the pandemic years. Rental rates in Canada are projected to increase by +3.4% in the period ending March 2025, with Montreal, Toronto and Calgary possibly seeing moderately higher growth rates as a result of the higher costs associated with providing and staffing city car rental locations. Fuel prices are also expected to stabilize.

In the United States, air rage incidents skyrocketed from around 10 times per month before the pandemic to around 500 per month in 2021 — the majority of which involved face mask compliance, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

Incidents have precipitously dropped since then, but “recent increases show there remains more work to do,” according to the FAA’s website.

Air Canada and Porter Airlines lead the way for Canada in this year’s Skytrax World Airline Awards. Air Transat also picked up a major award.

Air Canada won five awards; the most of any Canadian airline. AC won for the world's Best Business Class Airline Lounge Catering and also the Best Cabin Crew in Canada.

Porter Airlines was named Best Regional Airline in North America for 2024. Porter was ranked the eighth best regional airline in the world, while WestJet was 11th.
