Flying your dog into the US just got a lot harder

While the rules for bringing pets on domestic flights lie squarely with airlines, transporting pets internationally is subject to much stricter border laws on animal control — ones that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention just tightened.

While previous laws did not distinguish canines based on age, all dogs entering the United States by airport, land or sea crossing as of August 1, 2024 must be at least six months of age. Other new requirements include having to be microchipped with their vaccination records and owner’s details, having a filled-out CDC Dog Import Form that the owner can present and appearing “healthy upon arrival."

‘Making History’: Canada posts record-breaking Orlando visits

Canada “made history” in Orlando in 2023, sending more than 1.2 million visitors to the theme park capital, according to Visit Orlando, which revealed the “big announcement” at the IPW US travel trade show in Los Angeles this week. The record-breaking numbers also ensured that Canada remained the destination’s No. 1 market ahead of the UK (877,000) and Brazil (696,000).

Calgary listed as top Canadian travel destination for summer 2024

Kayak, a travel search engine, has released its annual summer travel trends report, showing Canadians’ are looking at Calgary and South America for travel this summer.

The Kayak report is based searches made for travel dates between May 17 and Sept. 3, 2024

The report shows South America as a popular vacation destination for Canadians, seeing searches for the area up 31 per cent from 2023. This coincides with a 14 per cent year-over-year drop in average airfare for the region.

Wildfires are burning across western Canada. What to know

The wildfire forecast for May said that both Saskatchewan and Alberta are at high or extreme fire severity for the month. Eastern B.C., central/northern Prairies, southern Northwest Territories, eastern Ontario and western Quebec are all expected to experience above-normal fire activity this month.

Last year, Canadian wildfires burned 18.5 million hectares of land, making it the worst wildfire season ever recorded, surpassing the previous record of 7.6 million hectares scorched in 1989.

New Airfare Refund Regulations A Win For Consumers

The new refund rules will take effect in late October.

In some respects, the changes aren't major. Airlines are already required to provide refunds to passengers upon request for flights that are canceled or "significantly delayed."

But the new regulations will require airlines to proactively notify flyers that they are entitled to a refund before offering flight credits or a rescheduled itinerary. In addition, the DOT rules says that refunds must be issued by default if a customer does not respond to airline communications.

Air Canada ranks below most other major North American airlines on customer satisfaction, with airfares a particular sore point, according to a new survey.

The country’s largest carrier placed last in both business class and premium economy, the poll by consumer analytics firm J.D. Power found.

According to Preply's study, Horseshoe Falls earned a whopping 99% positive reviews, ranking even higher than the Niagara Falls in their entirety, which placed 14th on the list.

Following Horseshoe Falls, are Whistler's Superfly Ziplines in second and Newfoundland's Gros Morne National Park in third.
