Desttination Canada announced the launch of an innovative data and analytics platform set to revolutionize the Canadian tourism industry and boost economic growth. The Canadian Tourism Data Collective is a first-of-its-kind, secure, centralized platform designed to harness the power of data to increase Canada’s competitiveness.

Officially launched at the Hotel Association of Canada’s Annual Conference in Montreal, the platform is a partnership between Destination Canada, Statistics Canada and the Department of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and is one of the key initiatives outlined in Destination Canada’s 2030 Strategy – ‘A World of Opportunity’.

Border unions threaten summer disruptions after members vote in favour of striking

he unions representing thousands of border workers are predicting disruptions at airports and land crossings this summer after most of their Canada Border Services Agency members voted in favour of strike action.

Customs and Immigration Union (CIU) members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) voted 96 per cent in favour of striking in a recent vote, according to a statement issued Friday by both unions. CIU said about 70 per cent of its members voted.

CSIS warns some LGBTQ2 events, venues may face threats from ‘lone actors’

Canada’s national intelligence agency is warning that “inspired lone actors” could target crowded or unsecured Pride events and LGBTQ2 venues this year, inspired by growing anti-LGBTQ2 rhetoric and incitements online.

The warning comes after the U.S. government issued a worldwide travel advisory last week about threats of potential “foreign terrorist organization-inspired violence” against the LGBTQ2 community.

Inflation in Canada’s travel sector is easing as the post-Covid surge in vacation spending wears off.

Air transportation costs in Canada were flat year-over-year in April, while travel accommodation prices fell 1.5%, Statistics Canada reported on Tuesday. Prices for travel tours were just 0.5% higher than a year earlier.
