American businesses that rely on Canadian tourism and who spoke to The Globe and Mail say it’s too early to see how devestating a fulll-on trade war will be on their bottom lines. But they are bracing for fewer visitors after already seeing a dropoff last year as the bilateral relationship frayed.

The renewed conflict is also expected to halt the rebound of Canadian travel to the U.S.

Canada’s travel industry continues to react to the ongoing Canada-U.S. trade dispute, with Trevello Travel Group’s CEO, Zeina Gedeon telling Travel Press Today (TPT) that: “The immediate impact of tariffs is obviously on goods and trade, but the travel industry doesn’t operate in isolation from the broader economy. If tariffs lead to higher prices, pressure on household budgets or prolonged economic uncertainty, that can absolutely influence how consumers think about discretionary spending, including travel.”

However, Gedeon said that “there is another factor at play here that is just as important: sentiment. Travel is an emotional purchase. Where people choose to spend their vacation dollars is influenced not only by price, but by how they feel about a destination. The relationship between Canada and the United States has become part of that decision for many Canadian travellers.”

The state of provincial emergency was enacted to ensure emergency powers and other tools could be made available quickly if needed. Fortunately, the Province did not need to use those emergency powers.

Within a few days of posting a vacancy for a new “AI operations lead,” apartment operator Bob W pulled the advert due to an overwhelming response.
This is despite it being a “role that doesn’t fit neatly into any existing job category,” according to COO Jeremy Slater, who said it attracted several hundred applications.
While it may be an uncommon position, blending AI fluency, operational expertise and an appreciation of the importance of guest experiences, this type of role is becoming highly sought after as hospitality companies realign organizational structures around AI.
The challenge is that nobody is quite sure what to call the role, much less where to find someone qualified to fill it.

U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order directing the interior secretary to rename Lake Ontario to Lake America, as the trade war with Canada continues.

In a post on X on Thursday, Prime Minister Mark Carney also said the lake’s name is not changing. He said it dates back more than 400 years, before Confederation and the U.S. Declaration of Independence.

“We know that the United States is changing. Their trade relations, their foreign policy, their national monuments, their hydronyms,” Carney said.

“Canadian women and men also know that things must be called by their name, and this lake is called Lake Ontario — today and forever.”
