A year and a half after Canadians started ditching their trips south of the border, at least some of them are hitting the road again.
In June, Canadian resident return trips from the U.S. inched up 3.2 per cent compared to the same month last year, according to new data from Statistics Canada.
It’s the third month in a row that inbound travel from the U.S. by Canadians has increased, following a rise of 9.5 per cent in May and 1.4 per cent in April.

Nearly half of Toronto travellers are still taking vacations despite the affordability crisis, but many are changing destinations and budgeting more carefully to reduce costs.
A YouGov study commissioned by Flight Centre Canada found 49 per cent of respondents said affordability is the biggest factor influencing where they travel, with people considering flights, accommodations, food and daily expenses.

Mexico is seeing a sharp decrease in international air arrivals despite reported overall increases in international visitors, according to newly released statistics.

International air arrivals slid down 8% in April and 7.5% in May, according to Mexico’s National Institute of Statistics and Geography.

Government reports stating international visitors had increased by nearly 12% in March didn’t tell the whole story.

WestJet travellers may be out of luck when it comes to financial protection against a grounded flight, as travel experts say insurance purchased in the days since a potential strike was announced is unlikely to reimburse customers for travel woes due to the labour dispute.

If travellers had bought insurance before Wednesday when the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), the union representing flight attendants on WestJet’s main airline, announced members had voted 99.4 per cent in favour of striking, they might have been covered.

President Donald Trump on Friday blasted Canada for wildfires enveloping swaths of the United States in a smoky haze and said he would add the costs of that pollution to existing tariffs.

Scientists have warned that human-influenced climate change is leading to more wildfires and other extreme weather events.

Shortly after Trump posted about Canada on Truth Social, The New York Times reported that the Trump administration in recent months has moved to dismantle government labs researching wildfire smoke and its effects.
