Canada has endured two of its worst wildfire seasons in the past five years. Over the last three years, roughly 31 million hectares have burned nationally, exceeding the area burned in each of the three preceding decades.

What is less widely appreciated is that wildfire risk is also becoming a liability risk. For businesses in forestry, transportation, utilities, energy, agriculture, construction, tourism and resource development, the question is no longer only whether they can withstand a wildfire. It is whether they can prove they took reasonable steps to prevent, prepare for and respond to one.

Nearly half of Toronto travellers are still taking vacations despite the affordability crisis, but many are changing destinations and budgeting more carefully to reduce costs.
A YouGov study commissioned by Flight Centre Canada found 49 per cent of respondents said affordability is the biggest factor influencing where they travel, with people considering flights, accommodations, food and daily expenses.

As previously reported by Open Jaw, foreign tourism operators have left Cuba en masse in recent months, including Blue Diamond Resorts, which ceased its operations in Cuba this April.
Iberostar Group has also cut ties with the country’s military-linked Grupo de Turismo Gaviota, although the Spanish multinational isn’t leaving Cuba entirely. According to the Havana Times, the company will continue to operate properties owned by Cubanacan and Gran Caribe, state entities linked to non-military components of the communist dictatorship.
