New data from Virtuoso says Canadian travellers are reshaping the summer season here at home and abroad by prioritizing longer, higher-value trips that are driving strong growth.
While demand for travel to the United States has softened, the travellers who do head south spend significantly more. Canadian summer travel overall is also pacing well ahead of last year.
“For Canadians, travel remains a priority – they’re simply approaching it differently,” said Virtuoso General Manager, Canada Karen Hardie. “While bookings remain consistent with last year, we’re seeing more intentional trips for longer periods of time and a willingness to invest more.”

If this proposal is approved by voters, it could benefit timeshare owners.
Currently, the taxable value of a non-homestead property can increase by up to 10% per year for property tax purposes. The proposed amendment would lower that cap to 5% per year.
As a result, the maximum annual increase in the taxable value of a timeshare or other non-homestead property would be cut in half, which could help limit future property tax increases.

The timeshare industry generates approximately $10.7 billion in sales annually, with nearly ten million U.S. households owning at least one timeshare product, according to ARDA’s 2025 State of the Vacation Timeshare Industry report. The industry has a solid foundation, with approximately 1,434 resorts and 188,700 total units nationwide in 2025.
According to ARDA’s 2025 State of the Vacation Timeshare Industry report, the timeshare industry demonstrates strong and stable performance, often outpacing the traditional hotel sector in key metrics. One of the most significant differences is occupancy rates. Timeshare resorts average 80.0% occupancy, as compared to the 62.3% national average hotel occupancy rate in 2025. This disparity is largely attributed to the prepaid nature of vacation ownership, which ensures guaranteed bookings.

The Criminal Investigation Agency of the HCM City Police has initiated criminal proceedings in 11 cases involving timeshare frauds and indicted nearly 200 suspects – including the leaders and employees of related companies – on charges of fraudulent appropriation of assets.
Searches have so far yielded 5,563 contracts, with initial findings indicating the suspects appropriated more than VNĐ612 billion (US$23.2 million).
Specialised units of the municipal police have been coordinating with the Criminal Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security and commune-level police to review enterprises showing signs of exploiting tourism activities to commit fraud under the guise of selling holiday packages.
