f you’re involved in the timeshare industry as an employee or as a supplier of goods or services, good news! Things are on the upswing for our community. The 2026 ARDA Spring Conference held May 10–13 in Las Vegas, left us breathless – just as these events always do. But this time, during a period of global economic uncertainty*, the vacation ownership business is still performing.
Perhaps the biggest takeaway from ARDA 2026 wasn’t found in a keynote presentation or breakout session. It was found in the tone of the conversations taking place throughout the halls of the Bellagio. After several years of economic pressure, regulatory challenges, and shifting consumer expectations, the vacation ownership industry appears to be adapting, innovating, and moving forward with renewed confidence.
If ARDA 2026 was any indication, brighter days may indeed be ahead for the timeshare industry.

The U.S. travel industry is on edge after Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin reiterated his threat to withdraw U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers from airports in so-called “sanctuary cities” in a move that could jeopardize international flights.
The U.S. Travel Association said that Mullin confirmed he is considering withdrawing CBP officers in a meeting where the trade group was pressing its concerns about other proposals the Trump administration is considering that could hamper travel. U.S. Travel and the major airlines quickly condemned the idea, and even Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said it doesn’t make sense to him.

Mastercard’s Travel Trendline, in partnership with The Harris Poll, reveals how travelers are rewriting the rules of international travel.
Today’s international traveler isn’t simply booking a trip — they’re optimizing one.
They are planning a trip using AI, chasing favorable exchange rates, going solo and extending business trips into mini vacations, according to the new Mastercard Travel Trendline, a survey of more than 15,000 consumers across U.S., Canada, U.K., France, Germany, Mexico, Brazil, China, India, Singapore, and Australia by The Harris Poll.
“Travel is no longer simply about where people go, but why they go and what those journeys enable,” says Cheryl Guerin, Mastercard’s executive vice president for Global Brand Strategy and Innovation. “For brands, understanding the new rules of travel in this evolving landscape is essential.”

The director of the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Board says Puerto Vallarta’s tourist trade easily weathered the Feb. 22 flareup of violence that followed the killing of a prominent drug trafficker by security forces and fully expects the Pacific-fronting destination will see large numbers of foreign and domestic visitors alike during the coming summer season.
Luis Villasenor says his destination continues to enjoy a strong following within this country and elsewhere, leading to his confidence about Puerto Vallarta’s tourism trade for the rest of this year.
